A masterclass on the topic: Barrister’s Professional Skills dedicated to Barristers’ Professional Day was organized by Caucasus International University Career Development Service, Faculty of Law and Legal Affairs Service on November 7, 2018 at 11:00. The event was hosted by Mr. Zaza Khatiashvili, a member of Georgian Bar Association and a former chair of the same association.
The masterclass was opened by Mr. Vladimer Macharashvili, Dean of CIU Faculty of Law. He provided the audience with basic information about Zaza Khatiashvili’s professional activities. The Dean also discussed business and friendly relations with his colleague and urged students to have the professional focus on such people.
Mr. Zaza Khatiashvili highlighted the period of being chair at Georgian Bar Association (2009-2017), implemented reforms, challenges and innovations with the students. In addition, he placed emphasis on the structure of the Association, the meaning and significance of teaching center and qualification exam.
The second part of the masterclass was completely dedicated to the discussion of particular cases, which were significant and distinct in Zaza Khatiashvili’s professional life. One of such cases was Asanidze – against Georgia, the first won trial in the history of Georgia in European Court of Human Rights in 2003. The speaker provided the details of the above mentioned case.
Whithin the framework of the masterclass Mr. Zaza Khatiashvili focused on the skills, which, in his opinion, are essential for every lawyer: knowledge, ethics and courage.
The concluding part of the meeting was held in the form of question-responses where the guest listened to students’ opinions and provided answers to their questions.
We would like to remind you that the above mentioned masterclass was dedicated to Barristers’ Professional Day, which is celebrated on November 8 in Georgia since 2011 by the initiative of Georgian Bar Association. This day is symbolically connected to Ilia Chavchavadze’s date of birth, who was a barrister by profession.
